First of all, the term is not highlights; it's lowlights. Second of all, you probably wouldn't want to try it because your hair has a very likely chance of turning orange. Save up your money and go to a professional salon. Remember when you get there that the term is LOWLIGHTS. Highlights means sections are a lighter color than the rest. Lowlights is the opposite. Actually, I'd recommend more of a burgundy or black for lowlights.

Well you have to buy a kit dear! How else are you going to highlight your hair? Oh don't use Kool-aid though. Um well you want a home remedy? I can't think of anything but use a Henna perhaps.

Well, the best thing to do is to go out and buy a kit--if you have a walmart or a drugstore they are very cheap~around $8. Also at these stores they carry permanent kits or temporary (wash-out) kits. BUT if you really just don't want to buy a kit, I only know of one thing to try. Kool-Aid. That might sound crazy but I've done it before. Pretty much any Kool-Aid flavor will do, just pick the color you want, mix it up a little strong (ie less water) to make a paste and put it where you want to highlights. This color will last about a month.
