Does tomato ketchup help hair if highlights have gone green?

I have blonde hair with natural highlights. When i go on holiday abroad the blondest parts of my hair always turn different shades of green from the chlorine in the swimmin pools..

I heard that if you put tomato ketchup in you hair it gets rid of it....

Anyone know if thats true and how well it works?

Does tomato ketchup help hair if highlights have gone green?

Actually it can. Not only does the red in the ketchup counteract the green, the acid from it helps to remove the mineral that causes the reaction. If the hair is extremely damaged, or is very very dark green you may need to buy this product instead.

and invest in a shampoo and conditioner for swimmers

no that is not true at all. they do however make shampoo for your problem. you can get it at sallys or either a salon. they work the best to take chlorine out of your hair, or a good clarifiying shampoo and conditoner would work if its not too bad. if you want you can also try to mix baking soda with water and wash it into your hair to remove the chlorine-use it as if were shampoo.

but from experience tomato ketchup does NOT work what so ever.

OMG! No! Use a good clarifying shampoo like paul mitchel's clarify, when you go into the pool (any pool) wet your hair with fresh water and some condition to save you the trouble of green hair.

hiya i'm in a hairdresser....

u wud think it wud in theory because on the colour chart if hair goes green, u need something with red colour pigments to counter act the green but tbh i highly doubt ketchup wud have the staying to power to really work.

best thing do is to go to ya local sallys hair n beauty where u can get a special shampoo which helps get rid of the chlorine.

deep cleansing shampoo's will help remove the chlorine from the hair - paul mitchell shampoo 3, but bware if u have got tinted hair, deep cleansing shampoos tend to make colour fade quick as its designed to really clean the hair. so using a shampoo like TIGI dumb blonde shampoo, it helps prevent hair from going brassey. only use the deep cleansing shampoo after swimming or when u really need to as it does fade colour.

another shampoo good 4 blonde hair is matrix so silver shampoo - it puts ash tones in the hair helpin to get rid of red/orange tones and is good 4 enchancing blonde and grey hair.

tbh tho, it tends to be hairs tht been tinted blonde or done with a home kit as altho bleaching makes the hair blonde...bleaching takes away the colour where as tints add colour. same result but works in different ways.

if in doubt go to a salon. hope this helps
