My hair and highlights?

ok my hair is i guess you could say black. and i hate it cause its so dark. but when i get out in the sun or if im in any kind of light it looks dark brown with light red/orange tints, (you can see my natural highlights). i read in a magazine that you can use lemon juice and get in the sun to give yourself natural highlights and also lightens your hair. i'm scared if i do this it will make my hair will turn red or orange? is this true? or do you think it will be ok to do it? thank you!!

I don't have naturally dark hair, but i do have natural reddish highlights, too, the same kind that show mostly in the sun. whenever i've tried any at home lightening things, it's been disaster---- can you say- ORANGE-- hair. awful. just get it done professionally, save yourself the money, time and energy (never mind slight embarrassment) of having an at-home lightening tragedy. you have darker hair, so maybe it wouldn't be as dramatic an affect, but i wouldn't risk it.

it ownt turn it ornnage you wont see a realllly drastic difference. why dont you just get a box of blond hair dye and randomly pick out pieces of hair and put the dye on them for like 5 mins

the lemon on the hair will give natural highlights to light brown or blonde hair. since your hair is so dark it would problably just make it brassy and orange. your best bet is to go to a salon and have it professionally done.

It will intensify the colors that you see in the sun...If your undertone is red or orange. this is what will come up. Try some on a test strand that you can cut off in a non noticeable place...put some lemon juice on i and see what happens, and see if you like the result...you can't do much lifting with lemon juice...stay away from the sun in products

My friend has tried this before and she wanted brown hair with light brown hilights when her hair is dark and she has tried it three times and came with numerous results. The first time she tried she got an orange darkish look. Then on her second try she got dark brown hair and on her third try she finally got it. But when you try the first time you may not get the perfect result. Hoped that helped!

my natural hair color is black. DEFINITELY go to a professional. i speak from experience as a one time do it yourselfer. it will cost more to correct what you mess up instead of just getting it professionally done in the first place.
