I really like an auburn type of highlight, which would look cute and natural in curly hair. If you want something that will grow out very naturally, try a caramel shade of highlights.

Caramel-colored highlights would be pretty.

Stay away from red! My friend tried it and it was hard to maintain. It also changed her coloring--none of her makeup looked right with it!

I would go for golden, caramel, or auburn highlights.

Maybe dry-cut hair into myriad layers w/ thin gold highlights, like Didi Gluck's:

That's the most recent I can find. But if you have a Marie Claire sub. or you know someone who does, find the March 2007 issue and flip to page 207: Ask Didi.

Or w/ soft caramel polished highlights and w/ volume:

The big picture up front.

I hope this helps!

I would say an auburn color all over, or just a lighter brown, than your current hair color. I would not do anything in the blonde family, because then roots would show bad, and you may end up with orange highlights.
