I just got highlights and they are way too drastic! I want to dye my own hair to fix it, any suggest

I leave for vacation tomorrow- can I fix my over-highlighted hair on my own?? The salon won't fix it becuase (even though it's not what I wanted), I "asked for highlights". I have (had) medium to dark brown hair and now I have bright blond evenly placed highlights that look far from natural. I was thinking I would dye it on my own, maybe apply a light brown all over to tone down the highlights, but I have NO idea what I am doing when it comes to colors and levels and such. I can't afford another salon, but want to look less like a circus performer in the meantime. In fairness, the highlighting job was actually very good- for someone else, but it's not the natural look I was going for. Any suggestions? Help!

Just use a temporary color not a peroxide color.

yeah, light brown would tone it down.If you have a lot of gold go for a natural shade not a gold shade again.Apply all over for about 20 minutes no longer...

Tone them with semi-permanent deposit only hair color. I would recommend L'Oreal. As far as the shade, just be careful to use a neutral base (not red or ash) and use a light shade because if it doesn't tone down the highlights enough, you can color it again but if it is too dark then you will have to wait for it to fade out. Another option would be Clariol Shimmer Lights Shampoo.

try buying a semi-permanent color that is lighter then your natural color and at least one shade lighter then the shade you want your highlights to be. I would go with one shade lighter because semi-permanents tend to come out a little darker at first. They will also wash out after a while so you could try to get it fixed professionally after that. I wouldn't buy a color that says 'Ash' or 'Cool' because those are the ones that I have heard that are common not to turn out right, especially on already color treated hair. Try a shade that is Warm or Natural.

But if your too scared to try it yourself, I would try to get someone professional to fix it...Its such a gamble using products from the store..you never know what they could turn out like.

go back and tell them you want it toned! They know what to do!
