How long do I leave hair dye on until I can put highlights on?

I naturally have dark brown hair

last year in June i got my hair highlighted red and blonde at the hair dressers.

The red has long gone and i've used two do it yourself highlighting kits since then,

I have really dark brown random parts in my hair and i would like to do my hair again but the parts that have already been highlighted will go even blonder and I dont want to go THAT blonde.

My sister suggested dying my whole hair brown like it was and then putting blonde highlights in again..

But how long should I wait until I put the highlights in?

I have one week off school soon but i'm not sure on how long I should wait.

Typically, on the box it says you should wait 48hrs, but ive done it the same day nothing happened.

If you dye all your hair brown its not going to do anything to the blonde. Bleached hair usually won't shuck up color that easy so when you highlight it again its just going to go blonder. The only way to make it not do that is to get it done professionally or wait till it growsall the way out.

I have dyed blonde hair and wanted to go dark so i dyed my hair brown which looked good and the put some blonde hughlights through it and it destroyed parts of my hair. I went to a salon to fix it and was told you can't dye hair thats blonde dark and then try to put it back blonde unless its grown out or you get it professionally done. She told me they have product that they use so it doesn't damage hair. Good Luck

There are hair color kits that now come with highlights that you do after you rinse off the hair color. Its about 20 dollars, but Ive always had good luck with them.
