What color highlights should i get? I have naturally dark brown hair and hispanic complexion.?

So as i said in the question above... I want to get highlights done some time during this week. I have long dark brown hair and was thinking of getting a caramel or honey colored highlights. What do you guys think? Should I go lighter or darker? Or lowlights? Or no highlights at all and have them use hair dye (like a light brown) to "highlight" my hair?

Last time I had it done I was clueless and let the stylists do whatever. Over two hundred dollars later... I left the salon not happy at all.

Thats why THIS TIME I want to go and be able tell them exactly how I want it. I would really like some hairstylists to respond to this question and tell me what to tell them when I go. I'm scared I will leave the salon not happy AGAIN.

I think dark brown hair is beautiful and wouldn't touch it. But if you are really wanting the highlights then get a light brown color. That will look really pretty on a tanned complexion. But remember, fall is here and hair should be darker. Once spring/summer come you can put highlights in.

Any answer would be such a great help. I want to get some nice highlights but im afraid they'll come out wrong. I know a lot of dark haired friends who highlight their hair and the truth is that it's a disaster. try a color that is kinda reddish brown, like brighter than you hair color, my friend at school has her hair like that and it is really pretty.

Blonde highlights look the best on brunettes. Don't apply too much on each strand. It'll look horrible. Here's a product that I think is great. There is a commercial with Eva Longoria with it. And after she put the highlights on, it looked great. It's called Loreal Paris Hi-Light Styliste. Try the shades, Amber Glaze which is reddish, or Toasted Almond which is Dark Blondish.

Well i know a few different ways. First get it highlighted blond but make sure its pulled through a cap not just chunks. Next U can always bleach the tips and put a funky color on that bleached part like pink or green or w/e u want. Get playful it never really matters i think its just how the person likes it.

I would recommend going a shade or two lighter than your hair color. I would do partial highlighs (possibly in the crown). If you get full highlights it wil possibly not look so natural. I would go to a salon to get it professionally done. Touch ups are not as much as the initial dye job. It is pricier if you have long hair. They usuall run anywhere from 60 to over a $100.

Hi there,

I think if you want a funky cool colour, I would do a full head of foils in bleach and get them as light as possible, and then apply a violet tint over the top of your whole hair.

The effect that this will give is a base colour of a dark brown-violet, and where you have had the blonde foils, the violet will look absolutely amazing!! I have done this on a client of mine recently, and she loved it!!!

I would'nt do streaks because their going out of fashion. I would go an all over colour/highlight which will make your hair look healthier and shinier. This will give you a boost!

you aren't old enough to be having a midlife crisis. and if you were, and had something that funky , it would make you look even older.

I finally colored my hair at the age of 47 because my husband finally admitted that the gray was bothering him! It didn't bother me at all. But, I heard from everyone how much younger I look. You're hair looks wonderful just the way it is.

But, if you HAVE to have something "funky", go with some highlights.

I'd go for light brown/red streaks on the crown of the head flowing down the length of the hair.

When they highlight your hair, they are pulling the color and some of the vitamins and nutrients out of your hair, making it dry and frizzy. I suggest

a deep conditioning shampoo and/or a leave in conditioner.

It is possible that the hair dresser that did, but i think you killed it by dieing too much in a short period of time...you should wait a couple months and ask a professional to do it. And if you want your true hair color you should get temporary die and wait for your growouts to grow out...

The problem is not so much the color you put on your hair but the condition your hair is in when you color it. Wash your scalp and condition your hair. I don't wash my hair every day because I color every 4-5 weeks (to cover gray). My hair has been shades of red, blonde, brown, and multi. I use Biolage Shampoo and Coral Beach conditioner. After I condition and rinse, I always add a little conditioner to the ends and leave in before I towel dry. My hair looks great all the time! And very soft! Good luck, and don't wash your hair for a couple of days if you can help it, before the next color. The dye wil take care of it.

I have natural strawberry blonde hair, it isn't colored at all. I've been wanting highlights for a while because every year my hair seems to get darker, so now I have a lot of brown in it as well (red, blonde and brown!) It sounds you have quite a lot going on with you're hair! I'm afraid that highlights might be too much because highlights look different of different colours of hair, and you seem to have them all! Is it possible for you to have a link to a picture of you're hair or something similar?
